Halie Parker slipped in a goal on the second shot of a sudden-death shootout to give the Dolphins a win at Hilton Head Christian.
"I was so nervous," said Parker, an eighth-grader. "I just tried to block everything out and focus on that one shot."
The teams played scoreless through regulation and again through two overtime periods before going to a shootout. Hilton Head Christian (8-2) took a 3-1 lead in the shootout before the Dolphins (2-2) rallied by making their next two attempts. The game then went to sudden death and Hilton Head Prep goalie Grace Anderson saved the Eagles' first attempt to set up Parker's clincher.
"It's frustrating," said Hilton Head Christian senior Emily Bowen. "To play that long and play so hard and then to have it come down to one goal -- it's just very frustrating."
