HHH girls roll to shutout of Hilton Head Prep
Four seniors score goals for Seahawks
And both seemed more concerned with the date on the calendar rather than the numbers -- a 4-0 Hilton Head High win -- that flashed across the scoreboard. Both coaches seemed to think the final margin was irrelevant.
"We kind of say March is the time for progress, little by little," Tavino said. "There's a lot of room for improvement, for sure, but we're seeing some good things. We've got to get more consistent and more fit. But for Game 3, for mid-March, we're OK with a long way to go."
There were few surprises from the Seahawks (3-0) on Tuesday night. The defending Class 3-A state champs received balanced scoring and were able to use their experience to maintain possession on their end of the field.
The Seahawks received goals from four different players, all seniors, including a score from Emily Natoli late in the first half that proved to be a back-breaker.
Devin Taylor wrapped in a corner kick midway through the second half and Shannon Jilly followed with a goal a few minutes later to put the match well out of reach.
Abby Fennessey had a first-half score to account for Hilton Head High's other goal.
The game could have been more lopsided if not for Hilton Head Prep goalkeeper Grace Anderson. The eighth-grader was active in net all night en route to securing seven saves for the Dolphins (1-1).
"We're young and we'll get better game by game, and that's really what we're looking for," said Townsend, Prep's first-year coach. "We're looking to peak later in the season. I'm happy with how they played the ball around, but there's no substitute for experience."
