Mike Townsend
Head Coach
Girls Varsity Soccer
Coach Townsend played amateur soccer in the UK at District, County and Regional level before becoming a Grade 1 referee also at the Regional level.
His coaching experience of over 20 years in the UK included youth soccer clubs and several District and Regional Amateur clubs including one womens soccer team, most notably in 1980 with a U14 boys team who at U16 went on to represent Leeds United FC in a 4 nation European tournament in Denmark in 1982. From this group 3 players went on to become professional soccer players most notably Scott Sellers who played for a number of Premier League clubs during his career and is now the Academy coach at Sheffield United FC and assisted former US National goalkeeper Brad Friedel set up his national academy in Toledo Ohio.
Coach Townsend came to the US in 2000 and began coaching in the Island Rec program before opening a soccer academy here in Hilton Head in 2005. A number of the younger players are now representing their school or playing in State and Regional Premier league programs with some also representing the State Olympic Development Program
